Shampoo is just shampoo right? Wrong. The basic function of shampoo is the same but the delicate balance of ingredients in all of your hair care products can make a huge difference.

How does shampoo work? Shampoo is made of molecules are hydrophilic and hydrophobic. Sebum is produced by the scalp and then coats the individual strands of hair creating a greasy look. In turn, dust, pollen and other particles then stick to the hair making it look dull. Sebum is hydrophobic, meaning it doesn’t like water. Part if the detergent molecules found in shampoo are also hydrophobic and stick to the dirt and sebum in your hair. These molecules also have a hydrophilic portion; they are attracted to water. So once you have lathered your shampoo and rinsed the dirt is washed away with the detergent.

But you can’t use any old detergent. Washing up liquid will have the same effect as shampoo but the detergent is too strong. The grease left on your pans after cooking is far more stubborn than the grease in your hair. This is why selecting the correct hair care

products is so important. The wrong product will determine the condition of your hair, longevity of your hair colour and the frequency with which you will need to wash it.

The entire range is paraben and sulphate free, carbon neutral and vegan!. Win, win, win, win! The use of parabens in cosmetics is contentious with many different views, but until we can be sure then I’m happy to leave them out. Sulphates can also be very harsh and will usually be the main culprit of your hair colour not lasting beyond a couple of washes after your hair appointment.
